4 min walkthrough of sanctions risk and due diligence

Every ship owner and manager profile in Maritime Intelligence has a Compliance & Risk Check tab. It shows whether the company itself is sanctioned and how many of the vessels it owns or manages are sanctioned or high risk, so you can screen a counterparty before you work with it.

  1. Open the company profile

Click Vessel Intelligence in the top navigation, then Owners / Managers, search for the company and click its name. You can also open it from a vessel profile: in Ownership, expand a company and click its name.

See Look up a ship owner or manager.

  2. Read the status at the top

If a risk was found, a Compliance status banner runs across the top of the profile and a badge sits next to the company name, for example High risk. The Compliance Status card on the Overview tab gives the same status in one sentence.

  3. Open the Compliance & Risk Check tab

Click the Compliance & Risk Check tab, or See details in the banner. The tab shows the status in large type, what it means, and one row per finding.

  4. See which vessels drive the status

Click Sanctioned fleet to list the company’s vessels that are sanctioned or high risk, with each vessel’s IMO, its Role (for example registered owner or commercial manager) and its Risk. Click a vessel to check it in turn. See Check a vessel for compliance risk.

Note: A company can be High risk without being on any sanctions list, because of the vessels it owns or manages. The status sentence says which applies, for example “No match was found on the sanctions lists screened by MagicPort. This is a risk assessment, not a sanctions listing.”

  5. Keep a record

Click Export PDF to download the check as a report. See Export a compliance report as PDF.
