Pharung Shipyard Co., Ltd, affiliated with the Vinashin Group, represents a joint venture between Vietnam and Finland and was founded on March 25, 1984, to undertake the repairs of vessels up to 16,000 DWT. Spanning over two decades, the shipyard has successfully serviced around 1000 vessels from a diverse array of countries including Russia, Germany, Greece, Korea, and Singapore, providing high-quality repair services.
Expansion into ShipbuildingAfter many years focused primarily on repairs, the company ventured into the shipbuilding sector. To date, it has completed the construction of nearly a dozen ships, ranging in deadweight from 6,500 to 12,500. This move laid the groundwork for the company to fulfill shipbuilding contracts for technically advanced vessels intended for export. Notable projects include building a 6,500 DWT oil/chemical tanker for a Korean owner and 34,000 DWT bulk carriers for an English owner. Since 2000, the company's quality management system has achieved ISO 9001 certification from DNV.
Awards and RecognitionPharung Shipyard Co., Ltd's dedication to excellence has not gone unrecognized. The shipyard has been honored with several prestigious awards: the third class Independence Medal in 2005, the first class Labour Medal in 2004, the second class Labour Medal in 1992, and the third class Labour Medal in 1987. Additionally, it has received five emulation flags from the government.
Transition to Building VesselsA pivotal moment for the Pha Rung Ship Repair Factory (now known as Pha Rung Shipbuilding Company) occurred between 2003-2004 when it shifted focus from solely repairing vessels to also constructing them. With the approval of Vinashin, Pha Rung upgraded and expanded its facilities to accommodate the repair of vessels up to 16,000 DWT and the construction of ships ranging between 35,000 to 40,000 DWT. Among the vessels constructed were several 34,000 DWT bulk carriers for Graig Investments of the UK, and chemical tankers of 6,500 DWT and 13,000 DWT.
