AUSTAL

About

Foundation of Austal USA

In 1999, Austal USA embarked on its journey with a modest team of fewer than 100 individuals, setting up its operations on a piece of land spanning 14 acres. The initial setup featured an assembly bay measuring 90 by 60, complemented by a wharf extending 380 feet. A small yet pivotal support team comprised three vice presidents, their assistants, totaling six members, managed their tasks from a double-wide trailer.

Early Expansion Period

The company undertook its first significant growth phase in November 2005, marked by a crucial period when it commenced the design of the Independence-variant Littoral Combat Ship intended for the U.S. Navy. This expansion phase saw the construction of two new assembly bays and the addition of two launch pads. Furthermore, the expansion enhanced the maritime infrastructure with a wharf (bulkhead) that reached a combined length of 750 feet.
