Foundation and Evolution of Sedef Shipyard

Initially founded in Gebze in 1972, Sedef Shipyard transitioned to its present location in Tuzla in 1990. Boasting a successful completion of over 200 projects, it has been an integral part of Turkon Holding since 2000. This parent company is associated with one of Turkish maritime’s most distinguished families, demonstrating a long-standing presence in the industry.

The Legacy of Turkon Holding

Since its inception within the shipping management sphere by the Kalkavan Family in 1954, Turkon Holding has surpassed six and a half decades, establishing a renowned legacy with significant contributions to the Turkish maritime fraternity. This includes the formation of cornerstone brands such as Turkon Line for container shipping and Sedef Shipyard in the shipbuilding sector.

Operational Capacity and Facilities

Spanning a grand total of 270,000 square meters, Sedef Shipyard stands as Turkey’s premier private shipbuilding facility in terms of both size and capability—with 194,000 m² allocated to its Tuzla operation and 76,000 m² to the Orhanlı plant. The shipyard boasts substantial indoor production areas, amassing 51,000 m² in Tuzla and 12,000 m² in Orhanlı.

Advanced Shipbuilding and Repair Capabilities

Sedef Shipyard has the capacity to manage shipbuilding projects up to 600,000 DWT annually, and operates Turkey’s one of the largest dry docks that supports the construction, repair, and maintenance of vessels up to 180,000 DWT. This includes the ability to hoist 1,050 tons in the dry dock area and 500 tons on the quay side. The shipyard prides itself on being a leading example in taking care of its workforce, the ocean, and the environmental by hosting Turkey’s most cutting-edge and eco-friendly indoor painting facilities.

Modernization and Innovation

Post its integration into Turkon Holding, Sedef Shipyard has directed towards modernization with technical agreements and investments tallying up to USD 250 million, positioning it among Europe’s forefront modern shipbuilding establishments.

Sedef Shipyard offers a diverse array of services worldwide, including the construction of naval and commercial vessels, conversion projects, specialized steel works, and industrial ventures, alongside repair and maintenance. With nearly five decades of expertise and a dedicated team of over 2,000 employees, the shipyard continues to fortify its reputable legacy with every undertaken project.
