The inception of the Nevsky Shipyard can be traced back to the construction of the Old Ladoga Canal in Russia in 1719, Europe's most extensive hydraulic project at the time. The expansion of freight movement through the canal necessitated the creation of repair facilities for the transiting ships, leading to the establishment of the Shliesselburg ship repair workshops in 1913. This facility would eventually evolve into the contemporary Nevsky Shipyard.
